The Information Systems Department was formed in 1996 and oversees two distinct departmental organizations. One organization, known as Data Processing, is devoted to the management of the districts Student Information System. All other aspects of computer and network maintenance are managed by the Network Operations Department.
The Data Processing Department manages a student information system known as Aeries Client Server by Eagle Software. The Aeries system utilizes a centrally located SQL Database and managed Client and Host Application software. It provides an interface for both school administration and classroom management. The system also offers online resources for parents and students.
The Network Operations Department maintains a wide range of hardware and software throughout the district. The district has roughly 5,000 personal computers currently in service. Supporting network related services, the district houses more than 60 shared resource servers.
Each school site has an independent Local Area Network designed to provide 100/1000 MB bandwidth to the workstation. All sites are connected centrally to the district Support Services Center through dedicated 45 MB circuits. These circuits represent the backbone of the districts Wide Area Network and collectively provide 180 MB bandwidth to the Internet.
The district employs several enterprise-wide applications. Students and staff are provided E-Mail and Web site services as well as network file storage space. Multi-faceted security and virus protection strategies protect the districts private network and client workstations. Parallel Disaster Recovery techniques are maintained on a daily basis. As required by both CIPA and district policy, a managed Internet Content Filter provides the best protection to staff and students from offensive electronic materials hosted on the Internet.
